The Norse god of thunder and slayer of giants is perhaps the deity who comes to most people's minds when they think of Norse mythology.
As a mythology lover (and an artist), I too have my own illustrated version of Thor.
Instead of relying on the Marvel/Disney Plus version, I intended to make Thor as close to the original mythology as possible.
For starters, I made Thor a bearded redhead...which is actually the first detail I learned about him while reading about ancient history in junior high school!
Thor also has red eyes...hence, I colored his pupils red.
Thor also has his iron gauntlets (which he needs to get a firm grip on his hammer) and his magic belt (to double his mighty strength).
I have even represented his name in Viking Age Scandinavian runes!
However, I do take some artistic liberties with how I draw Thor.
For example, I made him very tall so that he looks imposing and fierce.
In the Norse myths, the handle of Thor's hammer was "too short" due to Loki messing with the dwarves as they were making it.
However, I made the handle roughly medium-length because I figured that it would be awkward if Thor held a hammer with a tiny handle.
