OCEANIA
Tales from the South Pacific

Despite Western colonialist influence (particularly missionary activity) starting in the 1500s and kicking off in the 1800s, the myths and cultures of the South Seas live on.

Micronesia
Guam, Marshall Islands, Caroline Islands, Gilbert Islands, etc.

The Caroline Islands include the countries of Palau and the F.S. of Micronesia.
The Gilbert Islands are the main portion of the country of Kiribati.

Melanesia
Papua New Guinea and the islands near it

Polynesia
New Zealand, Hawaii, Easter Island, and all the islands in between

Moana is the traditional name of Polynesia

R.I.P. Maui
Time Immemorial--Who Knows How Long Ago

Aotearoa
Maori New Zealand

Hawaii
The Kanaka Maoli

Rapa Nui
Easter Island
(You know, that place with the giant stone heads who call people "dumb-dumb" and request gum-gum)

Oceania is not completely decolonized yet.

Sometime in the future, all of the island groups that are today colonies of faraway countries will become independent at last.

Hawaii will stop being a U.S. state and start being an independent kingdom again.
Easter Island will stop being part of Chile and start being an independent nation.
French Polynesia will decide that they don't want to be an overseas French territory anymore and become independent.
Guam will decide that they no longer want to be a U.S. territory and become an independent country.
American Samoa will stop being a U.S. territory and rejoin Samoa.
The Cook Islands will sever their ties with New Zealand and become fully sovereign.

The Great Moana will be free!
